Martellotto Cabernet Sauvignon 2006

The Margarita vineyard site is in the southwest corner of the Paso appellation, where the vines benefit from a cool, coastal climate. Blending is key to creating this vibrant  Cabernet which is fruit focused with balanced oak, integrated tannins, and moderate alcohol (a comforting 13.5%). The grapes were fermented in small lots and barreled down for eighteen months. The Cabernet rested in new and used American oak while the Merlot (10%) and Syrah (5%) rested in once used French oak. The wine was lightly filtered, blended and bottled in August 2008. Cabernet provides structure, black cherry, and pepper flavors. Merlot contributes blue fruits and the Syrah red fruits to round out the approachable style. A fine wine for a recessive economy, it is a here and now wine for a here and now culture.
