Martellotto Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon '06

The Margarita vineyard site is in the southwest corner of the Paso appellation, and the vines benefit from a cool, coastal climate. Blending is key to creating the Martellotto Cabernet which is fruit focused with balanced oak, integrated tannins, and moderate alcohol (a comforting 13.5%). The grapes were fermented in small lots and barreled down for eighteen months. The Cabernet rested in new and used American oak while the Petite Sirah (5%) and Syrah (10%) rested in once used French oak. The best barrels from all lots were selected for the Reserve. The wine was lightly filtered, blended and bottled in August 2008. Cabernet provides structure, black cherry, and pepper flavors. A deft blending of the Syrahs completes the palate with blackberry, violets, and dried herbs. The final blend was lovingly created to confer giddy pleasure. Only 17 barrels produced.
