About the Wine

Located on the hill of La Morra in Piedmont, Italy, Voerzio Martini is spearheaded by Gianni Voerzio, who has been producing high quality Barolo for over 30 years. He is joined by his twin son and daughter Mirko & Federica Martini. Mirko runs the cellar and Federica runs the sales and marketing side of the business. Together the family turns 19 acres of total vineyards into some of the most superior wines in all of Piedmont. Voerzio Martini focuses on producing wines that capture the essence of terroir of this noble wine region.

They work together, as a family with a traditional approach to winemaking—lots of concentration, less new oak and (botti grande) larger barrels for aging. All grapes are harvested by hand and fermented in stainless steel tanks. The 2015 Barolo Classico is aged in French oak for 24—30 months.  Compared to the famous wines of his famed brother, Martini focuses on elegant, restrained wines rather than a new world style focused on concentration and new oak.

Tasting notes: 100% Nebbiolo. Intense ruby red color. On the nose, the wine WOWS with rose petals, violet, cranberry, raspberry, and saddle leather with a touch of vanilla. The wine is rich and balanced, coupled with full notes of cocoa and overripe fruits that give this well-structured wine great longevity and power.

Reviews

This is big and powerful with lots of chewy tannins and intense fruit. Smoky wood comes out, too. Full body. Loads of flavor on the finish. Goes on for minutes. Needs a lot of time to mellow. ~95JS
