From the heart of Burgundy’s Nuits-St-Georges comes a Pinot Noir that defies all expectations. Made from 50 year-old vines across three parcels, the Lecheneaut brothers coax terroir into their Pinot Noir, no matter what challenges each vintage brings. In 2012, the result was clean flavors of fresh cherry and raspberry, lifted up by aromas of crushed violets and rose with an earthy, mushroomy finish. If you’ve wondered why there’s hype about Burgundy, this wine says it all.

About the wine

The 2012 vintage in Burgundy was challenging to start, but impressed many of the winemakers and patient collectors. The Lechenaut Nuits-St-Georges is an authentic pinot noir, varietally correct, with a deep ruby hue and enchanting aromatics of fresh cherry, strawberry, and rose. With a few more years in the bottle those will soften beautifully and reveal savory tones of leather, dried florals and dusty earth. Made completely from their own vines, Domaine Lecheneaut focuses on a family plot of just 10 hectares allowing the two brothers a laser focus on quality in the fields and the cellar. From biodynamic farming to judicious use of new oak and these wines are completely handcrafted and incredibly limited. Add in Jurassic limestone and chalky clay soils and the Lecheneaut bottlings become ones to savor and cherish--get this while you still can!

Reviews

As always, the 2012 Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Damodes is the more creamy and ample of Lécheneaut's Nuits 1er Crus. Silky and polished throughout the Damodes graces the palate with sweet, supple fruit in a feminine, gracious style that holds considerable appeal. Hints of tangerine, raspberry and wild flowers blossom on the super-expressive finish. The Damodes is all about resonance. ~93pts, VM
