About the Wine

Domaine des Sabines is a charming 9-acre winery that was acquired by Jean-Luc Thunevin and Murielle Andraud in 2006. This beautiful Château is located in Lalande de Pomerol, an amazing wine region, that has been typically overlooked by its very famous big brother, Pomerol, and is today delivering very exciting wines. Decanter said: "Many of today’s Lalande's are of an equal quality to a middle-ranking Pomerol. They have the same opulent richness, and with an ability in the better vintages to age over five years and up to 10."

Jean Luc Thunevin became a well-known figure in the wine world in less than a decade, thanks to its successful garage wine, Château Valandraud, which today is a Saint Emilion 1st Growth. The same quality that goes to this 1st growth, is implemented in all of Thunevin’s wines. All of Jean-Luc's wines are produced with a constant commitment to excellence.

Jean Luc was labeled the "Bad Boy" of Bordeaux by Robert Parker years ago. His "garagiste" style is akin to the great technology companies of Silicon Valley that grew up in a garage and disrupted the establishment. Jean-Luc did just that by making the best wines possible and releasing the wines at affordable pricesHis efforts have been rewarded with high praise and consistent top scores.

L'Esprit Du Beau Pere is a modern wine that represents a new wave of Bordeaux Right Bank in search of purity, maturity and elegance.

Coming from the epic 2016 vintage for the Right Bank. Vinous Media blessed this year with a 98-point review, where they stated that "The 2016s are absolutely remarkable wines. The word that comes to mind, unfortunately so often overused, is balance. Absolutely harmonious. The 2016 Right Bank reds are remarkably polished and sensual."

Aging: 12 months in French oak new barrels.

Tasting Notes: 90% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc.

Reviews

Quite an expressive fragrant nose touches of violets with blackberries and some cocoa dusting. Heady and evocative. The lovely rich texture on the palate, softly gripping tannins with bright black cherry and blackcurrant fruit flavors are given a lift by high acidity and weight by a softly chalky texture. Nice density overall with a spicy licorice edge to the mid-palate and on the finish alongside a cooling, minty aspect that gives a lifted ending. Characterful with personality and persistence. Good to drink, though still delightfully youthful, will age well. Good quality, elegant and polished - a nice buy from the appellation. ~94 Decanter.
