About the Wine

The first records of Quinta da Romaneira date back to 1757, when Marquis of Pombal, a Portuguese diplomat, ordered the official registration of the Quinta. This estate was recognized among the Portuguese elite and wine connoisseurs of the time. It was mentioned in several works of important authors like Henry Vizetelly or The Viscount of Vila Maior, who called the wines from Romaneira “one of the best in the Douro, notable for its smoothness, body, and aroma."

The century-old Quinta passed through the hands of different owners, all of which contributed to positive changes. And finally, in 2012, André Esteves, made his wine dream a reality, when he became the principal investor of Romaneira, in partnership with Christian Seely, CEO, and shareholder since 2004. With these two successful businessmen at the helm, the Quinta has consolidated among the elite producers of wines and Ports in the Douro region.

Quinta da Romaneira is one of the largest estates in the region. The estate is made up of over 1000 acres and 1.8 miles of river frontage on the river Douro. The 212-acre vineyard is magnificent, with old vines of native grapes like Touriga Nacional, Touriga Francesa, Tinta Roriz, and Tinto Cão that are planted on pronounced terraces on steeply sloping hills. Leonor Sequeira is the mastermind behind these beautiful wines. Her expertise includes working in some of the most recognized wineries in Port like Quinta do Noval and Ramos Pinto.

Quinta da Romaneira Douro Reserva is “the ultimate expression of what the noble red Douro varieties can produce at Quinta da Romaneira.” This wine is the result of the most rigorous selection of Romaneira's wines.

This Reserva is a limited edition blend of the very best lots from Touriga Nacional and Touriga Francesa. The result is pure magic. A must-try for any wine adventurer. This wine is highly allocated.

Aging: 12 months in French oak barrels, 45% new oak barrels; 55% barrels of one year.

Tasting Notes: 86% Touriga Nacional, 14% Touriga Francesa. An intense concentration of fruit and a long fresh finish, harmony, and finesse.

Reviews

The reserve wine from this major estate is certainly a bottle for aging. It's a blend of Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca that shows a lot of structure. Tannins and black fruits abound, showing density and richness. Drink from 2022. ~95 Wine Enthusiast

Charming, featuring a nice balance of raspberry, olive, and licorice notes that are fresh and inviting, with plush tannins and tangy acidity lending integrated structure through the spice, mineral, and wild herb aromas on the finish. Not a powerhouse wine but offers lots of finesse. Drink now through 2027. 2,500 cases made. ~93 Wine Spectator

Dark ruby garnet, violet reflections, subtle lightening of the edges. Dark berry confit, fine precious wood spice underlaid, notes of blackberries, and some nougat, candied orange zest. Juicy, freshly structured, red strawberry nuances, fine tannins, mineral, balanced, subtle extract sweetness on the finish, already well developed. ~93 Falstaff
