About the Wine

Casas del Bosque oversees 625 acres located outside Santiago, the capital of Chile. Today Casas del Bosque is one of the most important wineries in Casablanca. In 2010 it became the Best Vineyard to Visit in Chile according to The Winery Guide, Brasil. In 2013 and 2014, the prestigious International Wine & Spirits Competition (IWSC) chose the winery as the “Chilean Wine Producer of the Year”.

Its mission is to produce wines of the uppermost quality, always searching for excellence. Modern viticulture coupled with an exquisite cool climate in the Casablanca Valley allows them to produce some of the best wines in all of Chile. Their passion for wine, love for the process, and respect for the terroir grant them the ability to transform honest grapes into virtuous wines!

2018 Casas del Bosque Gran Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon Rapel Valley is an amazing, elegant Cab that comes from the Rapel Valley in Central Valley. This valley is one of the most important wine regions in all of the country, and it has gained recognition throughout the years thanks to the production of some of the best Cabernet Sauvignons in the country.

2018 was an excellent year for Chile, Wine Advocate blessed this vintage with a 96-point review. Wine Spectator stated that "Two-thousand eighteen was a textbook vintage for Chile. If there’s a word that sums it up, it’s balance. The 2018 vintage is the second most productive harvest of the decade, delivering vivacious and expressive reds."

Aging: 11 months in French oak barrels (20% new, 80% used.)

Tasting Notes: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Intense purple-red in color, this Cabernet Sauvignon is characterized by aromas of cassis and mint, with some notes of dried figs and raspberries, notes of vanilla and spices. The tannins are ripe and integrated, and it is a dense and concentrated wine, with good length. It is an intense, mature, complex but at the same time elegant wine.

Reviews

"A medium-bodied red with aromas of stewed berries, mushrooms, and lemons. Firm, fine tannins and bright acidity with a fresh, slightly bitter, and tarry finish. Drink or hold." ~91 Point, James Suckling.

"A classic Maipo cabernet varietal, this one comes from different vineyards south of Santiago. It has minty notes, red fruits, and spicy flavors in a rather medium body, with firm tannins, although not at all aggressive. A good companion for braised meats." ~91 Points, Descorchados
