About the Wine

It is said that Saint-Emilion cast a spell over Georges and Madeleine, urging them to cultivate the vines that had been growing on the land since the 16th century. In 1940 they turned the wine estate into Château Corbin and have been making history since. Now helmed by Jacques Rambeaud, who's been tenderly caring for the land since 2005.

Vignobles Rambeaud has vineyards in some of the most special appellations in Saint Emilion in Montagne Saint-Emilion and Saint George. Their main cellar is located 1 mile from Petrus and Cheval Blanc, and 2 miles away from Figeac (talk about special locations!) Click HERE to check out the beautiful Château.

Driven by goals of innovation, authenticity, and sustainability, Rambeau “listens to nature” and “adapts to its particularities by remaining attentive to it at all times.” Pride in the terroir is what moves them forward, as their land is full of Pomerol’s signature “crasse de fer”, which is the local name for the iron-rich clay found in the soils. This distinct clay is thought to be responsible for the notable aromas and texture found in the region's Merlot

The style and detail of Corbin’s wines have progressed grandly in step with Rambeau’s intuition, creating a wine that is powerful and entirely elegant. This can be said of the 2019 Chateau Corbin "La Clie" Montagne-Saint Emilion Réserve. Coming from what Decanter has called, “an extremely high-quality year” that was awarded95 points by Wine Enthusiast, this wine is a testament to its vintage.

Aging: 15 months in French oak barrels.

Tasting NotesFresh, juicy dark fruit on the nose; discreet licorice and notes of chocolate through the body. Smooth with an elegantly flavorful finish of crushed stones.

Reviews

Aromas of ripe dark and blue fruit with hints of chocolate, licorice and wet earth. It has full body and a firm tannin structure. Chewy and compact. Juicy fruit and hints of crushed stones on the finish. Merlot, cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon. Try after 2024. ~93 James Suckling.

A slightly richer style of Corbin than we have seen in some recent vintages but it is entirely successful. Plum and blueberry flavours, well balanced with a juicy frame and mouthwatering finish. 40% new oak. New consultancy with Jean-Luc Thunevin. 80% 1st wine. A yield of 48hl/ha. ~93 Decanter
