About the Wine

Viña San Pedro’s story began over 150 years ago when the Correa brothers embarked on a mission to bring the finest grape varieties from the Old World to the Curicó Valley in Chile. Their passion and dedication to winemaking have made them one of the biggest and most esteemed vineyards in the country.

In 2002, their top winery was established at Cachapoal Valley, nestled at the foot of the majestic Andes Mountain Range. Here, the team meticulously crafts their top lines: Altair, Cabo de Hornos, Sideral, Kankana del Elqui, and Tierras Moradas. Each bottle tells a tale of passion, expertise, and the harmonious fusion of nature and craftsmanship.

Viña San Pedro works with an unwavering commitment to sustainable and innovative winemaking. They’re responsible for the environment, the land, and the people.

Viña San Pedro is a flagship winery and a reference of Chilean wine worldwide. This estate creates some of the most exported and consumed Chilean wines in the world like Gato Negro and Tarapacá, and their top wines have been recognized by wine critics around the world with several 90+ scores.

Cachapoal is located northern half of the very well-known Rapel Valley, between Maipo and Colchagua. Over the years, this region became mistakenly overlooked by its more famous neighbors, but recently, this region has recently reawakened the interest of some of the most acclaimed wine critics in the world.

Decanter magazine said: “At present, the marketplace is seeing Chilean wine undergo an exhilarating transition from good-value everyday wine to something more diverse and quality-orientated. In the same vein, Cachapoal is finally starting to shed its apathy and aiming to put its name up there with Chile’s best wine regions.”

Sideral, from the Latin word sideralis, meaning ‘constellation’, embodies "the perfect harmony of each grape and their flawless combination into a blend of exceptional quality." Sideral has been recognized among the "100 Best Chilean Wines" by James Suckling.

Reviews

This new version of Sideral comes from a selection of vineyards on the slopes of the Andes, in Alto Cachapoal. This year it is 68% cabernet sauvignon, 17% petit verdot, 4% carménère and the rest cabernet franc. 85% is aged in barrels (20% of them new wood) and the result of this wine, harvested early in the season, offers a different vision of the wines of the area. It feels very fruity, clear in its herbal aromas, perfumed; even something floral. And the texture is very kind, and creamy. A good example of a new vision for a place that is classic in Chile. ~95 Descorchados

A fragrant nose of cherries, mulberries, dried herbs, dry earth, lavender, peppercorns and violets. Medium-bodied with fine tannins. Structured and balanced. Pretty layers of fruit and spice. Flavorful finish. 68% cabernet sauvignon, 17% syrah, 9% petit verdot, 4% carmenere and 2% cabernet franc. Drink or hold. ~93 James Suckling

Elegant with roasted herbs and ripe cassis, integrated with spices and wood notes. A fresh palate with polished tannins. ~92 Decanter

The 2020 Sideral is a blend of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Syrah, 9% Petit Verdot, 4% Carmenere and 2% Cabernet Franc from the Cachapoal Andes, aged for 16 months in barrels and foudres. Vivid purple in hue. The aromas feature dark fruit, blackberry and hints of black currant, blueberry, herbs and blood over a bed of oak. In the mouth, the flavors are intense and juicy, with precise freshness, refined, reactive tannins, and a fruity finish. Regular drinkers of the brand will find the style heading in a more reductive direction. ~91 Vinous Media

This blend of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Syrah and a splash of Petit Verdot, Carmenère and Cabernet Franc comes from vineyards at the foothills of the Andes Mountain range. It's full bodied, with ripe berries, grass and peppercorn on the nose. Grippy tannins and lively acidity balance the concentrated flavors of ripe plums, cherries and light notes of black olive that extend into the medium finish. ~90 Wine Enthusiast
