About the Wine

If you’re looking for amazing wine at a great price, Montepulciano d’Abruzzo is your go-to. James Suckling described Montepulciano as “solid, rich, easy-to-like, and best of all wallet-friendly wines.”

Tenuta Ulisse is located in the beautiful region of Abruzzo. This winery was founded in 2006 and today, it is a flagship for the winemaking revival of this Italian wine region.

The winery is owned and managed by brothers Antonio and Luige Ulisse, two passionate winemakers who pour their heart and soul into their family winery. Ulisse brothers have managed to perfectly combine the modernity of the new winemaking with the centennial traditions. Their vision is “Touse the most expressive and unique terroirs of Abruzzo to create Abruzzo fine wine of distinction."

Ulisse winery is located about 9 miles from the Adriatic Sea. This is translated in a magnificent terroir that is benefited by maritime influence. The vineyards are planted with autochthones grapes like  Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, Trebbiano d'Abruzzo, Pecorino, Passerina y Cococciola.

The 10 Vendemmie is a cru wine obtained from Abruzzo’s most important red grape, the Montepulciano. This innovative wine is a blend of ten vintages of wine which means the wine already has layers of primary, secondary, and tertiary development in the blend. A tour de force, this wine represents Tenuta’s commitment to producing outstanding, real wines, that can truly represent the terroir of Abruzzo.

We're not the only ones impressed with Ulisse. Luca Maroni has consistently rated the Montepulciano from Ulisse as one of the best in Abruzzo and indeed, in all of Italy.

Aging: 9-12 months in French and American barrels.

Tasting Notes: 100% Montepulciano. Intense ruby red color, wide and complex to the nose, fruity, with a prune and cherry jam aroma, with notes of tobacco, slightly spicy. Layer upon layer of flavors and development. This is a full-bodied wine, soft and rich in fine tannins, with notes of cocoa, coffee, and vanilla in the end. Pair with red meat, game, and savory first courses. This is truly a meditation wine.
