About the Wine

Over the past 20 years or more, Feudi di San Gregorio, in southern Italy’s Campania region, has played a leading role in fostering a winemaking revolution that extends across southern Italy and has led to a remarkable resurgence of regional wine industries. Throughout its short yet prolific history, the estate’s proprietors have cultivated Campania & Apulia’s finest vineyards and worked closely with some of Italy’s best enologists. The results have been remarkable — the wines of Feudi di San Gregorio meet time and again with stellar reviews and consistently garner international critical acclaim.

This highly acclaimed winery Encourages us to rediscover the identity of Mediterranean flavors through indigenous grapes that reach their full potential with their modern winemaking approach. Serpico is an Aglianico from their historic “Dal Re” vineyard.

Aging: 18 months in new French Oak

Tasting notes:Red Wine. 100% Aglianico. Ruby red color. A complete bouquet of cherry jam, sweet spices, licorice, coffee and cacao. Balanced in the mouth; spicy minerality and great persistence. Excellent with roasted red meats, the finest poultry, game and aged cheeses.

Reviews

A balanced and delicious red now with plum and light clove character. Hints of volcanic ash. Full body, soft tannins and a fruity finish. Very reserved and refined. Firmness at the end. Drink now or hold. ~94 James Suckling

Serpico is a bold, larger-than-life wine, with beautiful aromatic intensity and notes of black fruit, espresso and crushed granite. Some 18 months of oak aging adds elements of dark spice and smoke; and the wine shows firm tannins and a long, polished mouthfeel. It's very elegant and should withstand many more years of cellar aging. ~93 Wine Enthusiast

The 2008 Serpico (Aglianico) is dark, powerful and intense. Black cherries, tar, asphalt and menthol are some of the nuances that emerge from this vibrant, tightly coiled Serpico. The 2008 will require cellaring, but the wine has a brilliant track record of repaying patience. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2026 ~92+ Wine Advocate
