From the heart of Burgundy’s Nuits-St-Georges comes a Pinot Noir that defies all expectations. Considered one of the best 1er crus from this estate, the Lecheneaut brothers coax terroir into their Pinot Noir, no matter what challenges each vintage brings. In 2012, the result was clean flavors of fresh cherry and raspberry, lifted up by aromas of crushed violets and rose with an earthy, mushroomy finish. If you’ve wondered why there’s hype about Burgundy, this wine says it all. Even Allen Meadows of Burghound calls this wine "Sweet Spot Outstanding".

About the wine

The 2012 vintage in Burgundy was excellent offering ripe fruit with exceptional balance and purity of fruit. The Lechenaut Nuits-St-Georges is an authentic pinot noir, varietally correct, with a deep ruby hue and enchanting aromatics of fresh cherry, strawberry, and rose. With a few more years in the bottle those will soften beautifully and reveal savory tones of leather, dried florals and dusty earth. Made completely from their own vines, Domaine Lecheneaut focuses on a family plot of just 10 hectares allowing the two brothers a laser focus on quality in the fields and the cellar. From biodynamic farming to judicious use of new oak and these wines are completely handcrafted and incredibly limited. Add in Jurassic limestone and chalky clay soils and the Lecheneaut bottlings become ones to savor and cherish--get this while you still can!

Reviews

Unlike many of the wines in this range, the 2012 Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Pruliers is quite expressive today. There is more than enough depth in the fruit to match the incisive Pruliers tannin. Crushed flowers, sweet tobacco and licorice add nuance as the wine gradually opens up in the glass. The 2012 Pruliers is both incisive and also silky, showing the contrasts that is one of the things that makes top-flight red Burgundy so compelling. In the 2012 the malos were quite long, so there is good reason to think the 2012 will be slow to fully reveal itself in bottle. ~ 94pts, VM
