About the Wine

Located in the historic capital of Beaujolais, Beaujeu, Domaine de Bel-Air has been producing superb Beaujolais since 1840. Today the estate is run by Jean-Marc Lafont, who, since 1992 has used eco-friendly vine techniques (HVE certified) with minimal intervention to produce healthy, natural grapes. Jean-Marc produces impressive well-built fruit-forward wines and deserves to heralded amongst the Beaujolais elite.

2017 was a near-perfect vintage, much like 2015 the wines are well built and have great aging potential. The 2017 Domaine de Bel-Air Moulin-a-Vent is a well-built wine with some aging potential. Coming from hand-harvested, 50-year-old vine, the wine is rich with fine tannins and a staggeringly long finish. This 2017 Beaujolais is a perfect backyard wine best enjoyed while flipping burgers on the grill underneath the warmth of the sun.

Aging: In vats and barrels for 9 months.

Tasting Notes: 100% Gamay. Dark ruby robe, undergrowth nose with iris, fully blown rose and ripe fruit at the fore that slowly give way to a lightly oaked finish.

Reviews

This offers some lighter, stony nuances with red flowers and berries and the palate has a superbly juicy edge with power, detail, and plenty of cherry flavor. Drink or hold. ~93 James Suckling
