About the Wine

New Frontier Wine Company is a serendipitous merging of innovators and artisans, with the tradition of Napa’s finest terroirs. Each winemaker is an enigmatic creative force: Michel Rolland, Philippe Melka, Alberto Antonini, Matt Sands, and Joe Shebl. With some of the biggest names in the world of wine coming together under a shared passion for producing exceptional wines from exceptional terroirs, the results a near explosive.

Blind Justice is a pure expression of Napa Cabernet exclusively from Beckstoffer’s ‘To-Kalon’ vineyard. The true heart of the famed Oakville appellation, this vineyard highlights the decadent essence of Napa Cabernet to perfection, with vines rooted in loamy alluvial soil that adds depth, nuance, and structure. An absolute stunner, and the flagship of the Justice offerings, this is the wine that epitomizes the adventurous and pioneering soul of the Napa Valley.

To Kalon is perhaps the most famous of the Beckstoffer vineyards, and certainly one of the most celebrated in Napa’s history. Planted by H. W. Crabb, in 1868, as the Hermosa Vineyard, it was 250 acres and already the most famous vineyard in California when it was renamed To Kalon (meaning “highest beauty” in Greek). Mr. Crabb lived long enough to expand the vineyard several times and made it one of the most successful wine cellars prior to Prohibition. Afterward, it passed to a couple of families who cared well for the vineyard until it was finally purchased (in part) by Andy Beckstoffer, in 1993, and replanted in 1994. Even after 150 years, the reputation of this "grand cru" vineyard has never been greater.

Aging: 20 months in 78% new French Oak

Tasting Notes: 76% Cabernet Sauvignon 24% Cabernet Franc. Baking spices like clove and cocoa jump out of the glass and are then met with aromas of ripe black cherry and vanilla. The cherry shows up again on the palate along with other dark red and purple fruits. This wine lingers for days with a rich core and luscious mouthfeel.

Reviews

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Blind Justice Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard is straight-up terrific. Based on 76% Cabernet Sauvignon and 24% Cabernet Franc from a handful of blocks in this great site in Oakville, aged 20 months in 78% new oak, it has a beautiful cassis, wildflower, and sappy herb-driven bouquet as well as a rich yet seamless style on the palate. This full-bodied beauty pairs richness and elegance perfectly, has ripe tannins, terrific balance, and is going to evolve for two decades. ~97 Jeb Dunnuck
