Another brilliant wine from Marie Lefévère, the 2022 Château Soutard-Cadet comes from a 2.7-hectare vineyard on the upper plateau (near Soutard) and is 90% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot. Still resting in 75% new oak, this medium to full-bodied, pure, concentrated Saint-Emilion has lots of both red and blue fruits (black raspberries, cassis), notes of crushed stone, violets, and spicy wood, ripe tannins, and terrific mid-palate depth. As with all Marie's wines in 2022, I love its purity as well as its balance. ~94-97 JD

The 2022 Soutard-Cadet is another heady, full-throttle wine from Marie Lefevere. Blackberry jam, crème de cassis, bittersweet chocolate, licorice, cloves and lavender build as this potent Saint-Emilion shows off its considerable charms. There's a ton of concentration and plenty of oak, but all the elements are impeccably balanced. Superb. Tasted three times. ~93-95 AG-VM

A dense wine with plenty of fruit and intensity. Pure wild berries. Velvety and firm tannins that are layered and beautiful. Fresh herbs. 85% merlot, 10% cabernet franc and 5% petit verdot. ~93-94 JS

The 2022 Soutard-Cadet was cropped at 18h1Jha between 21 and 28 September. It has a very opulent and ravishing bouquet with blooming violets intermixed with black cherries and cassis. The palate is medium-bodied with gentle grip, fine acidity, lightly spiced with a focused, quite sapid finish. It will need 4-6 years in bottle, but it has the potential to age with style. 15% alcohol. ~92-94 NM-VM
