Like the progressive Jacobins of the French revolution, the Réserve des Jacobins does things a little different. Unlike most second wines, this gorgeous 2010 is blended by the Cordier master winemaker Oliver Leblans, who also curates the top wines of the Chateau. From the heart of St. Emilion, velvety plush Merlot takes center stage in this full-bodied, spicy wine. Accented by Cabernet Franc, the 2010 Réserve des Jacobins is a gem!

About the winery

Born from the limestone and clay soils in the heart of quaint St. Emilion, this wine is so much more than the 2nd label from Clos St. Jacobins. Winemaker Olivier Leblans’ Réserve des Jacobins is a plummy elelgant treat. Formerly of Chateau Mouton Rothschild, this winemaker’s skills are second to none and when coupled with the unidsputed best vintage in recent Bordeaux history, this bottle is a true gem to treasure! Considering the praise given to the 2010 vintage, it’s amazing we could even find a small amount this wine! Ripe and supple on the palate, the Merlot-heavy blend bursts with the flavor of juicy, freshly picked plums and a hint of cigar smoke and licorice.

Reviews

Dark and inky with notes of kirsch liqueur on the nose. This is a deep, brooding wine that is still young with 10-15 years of development ahead of it. This is to be expected given the storied vintage. This wine finishes with lovely Mediterranean herbs and spice, a touch of oak and vanilla. An excellent wine from a superlative vintage.  94 pts, Paolo Barbieri, Master Sommelier
