About the Wine

Situated on just 7 total acres, the picturesque Chateau Moulin du Cadet produces a tiny volume of excellent wine. Since the 2002 vintage this estate has been growing grapes fully Organically. This has remained consistent even into current ownership by the Lefevre family, which also owns Chateau Sannsonet. The 2018 vintage was truly exceptional, but Moulin du Cadet didn't produce any extra wine, stock is limited and only shrinking don't miss this!

The 2018s are ripe, sexy wines loaded with fruit and texture, yet they also display a remarkable freshness and purity (as well as singular characters) that make the vintage so special. It’s not a year that favored one side of the river over another, and there are truly profound wines from both the Right and Left Banks.” ~Jeb Dunnuck

This Chateau sits at the top of the Cadet hill just north of the town of Saint Emilion. The wine quality has been on a nonstop rise since it was purchased by Alain Moueix in 2002. It has since continued its growth under the direction of the Lefevre family. With an emphasis on sustainability and organic grape growing, we can only expect these wines to continue to showcase the beautiful depth that we all know and expect from Saint-Emilion.

Tasting Notes100% MerlotDark red color. The nose is loaded with dark black fruits and violets. It starts out very pleasant on the palate, with no hardness whatsoever, becoming smooth and delicious with a medium-long finish.

Reviews

Rocking amounts of red and black currants, chalky minerality, violets, camphor, new leather, and violets emerge from the 2018 Château Moulin Du Cadet, a rich, medium to full-bodied, concentrated, beautifully balanced Saint-Emilion. With ripe tannins, plenty of mid-palate depth, and a great finish, this is another remarkable wine from the Lefévère family that's well worth snatching up. The wine is 100% Merlot brought up in 80% new French oak. It's going to benefit from 4-5 years of bottle age and will keep for 15+. ~95 Jeb Dunnuck

The 2018 Moulin du Cadet is just as impressive from bottle as it was from barrel. Inky dark cherry, plum, mocha, spice, licorice and chocolate all build effortlessly. Sumptuous and inviting, Moulin du Cadet hits all the right notes. I would give the tannins a few years to settle down. The 2018 is a Saint-Émilion of real substance and character. ~93 Antonio Galloni

Sweet-berry, coffee and mushroom aromas follow through to a full body with chewy tannins and a juicy finish. Needs time to soften. Try after 2024. ~93 James Suckling

Made from 100% Merlot, the deep garnet-purple colored 2018 Moulin du Cadet strides confidently out of the glass with bold notes of blackberry preserves, plum pudding and black raspberries, plus suggestions of charcoal, tapenade and wild mushrooms with a waft of bay leaves. The medium to full-bodied palate is laden with juicy black fruits, supported by plush tannins and fantastic freshness, finishing long and earthy. ~91 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
