About the Red Wine

A true expression of CULT Cabernet Sauvignon and all it is intended to be. First released in 2008 and is culled solely from barrels selected with complex aromatics, voluptuous texture, and purity as well as depth. The 10th Anniversary CULT conveys the celebrated history of the wine. A pure expression of climate and soil with winemaker Julien Fayard nurturing its creation.

Renowned winemaker Julien Fayard uses his expertise to produce wines that express pure, terroir-driven specificities and characteristics. Julien gained his knowledge and defined his core winemaking style from working at grand Chateaux in France such as Lafite Rothschild and Smith Haut Lafitte.

Beau Vigne flies under the radar as a “hidden gem” and small boutique winery producing only a few thousand cases a year. Fans and critics alike flock to the winery for its outstanding wines and genuine hospitality including famed critic Robert Parker who refers to Beau Vigne as “one of my favorite wineries.”

One of my favorite wineries, Beau Vigne’s vineyard sits at a high elevation in the southern Napa Valley, back Soda Canyon Road, overlooking the Pritchard Hill Gap as well as the Stagecoach Vineyard. The AVA for these wines is Atlas Peak and the soils are all volcanic origin. This winery is currently on a qualitative roll.” ~Robert Parker

The time is ripe to stock up on quality vintages like 2015, 2016, and 2018. The opportunities to capture wines from previous years are limited.

Aging: 100% New Oak

Tasting notes: 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot. Demonstrates structural intensity, balance with fresh acidity, and über plush tannins all elements that make them very age-worthy but ultra-inviting. Layers of vibrant cassis, black cherry, and black currant interplay with infusions of graphite and sweet tobacco that unfold. The palate displays profound density woven with finessed tannin that transcends to a seemingly endless and intense finish.

Reviews

Composed of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Cult is a blend of both of the estate vineyards: Stags Ridge and Soda Canyon, with 15% blended from Rutherford and Oakville. It was aged in 100% new oak. Deep garnet-purple colored, it prances out of the glass with showy black fruit notions of preserved plums, baked blueberries, and crème de cassis plus suggestions of hoisin, cedar chest, pencil lead, and tilled soil with a touch of sautéed herbs. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is filled with black fruit preserves with loads of exotic spice and herbal sparks, framed by chewy tannins and oodles of freshness, finishing earthy. ~92+ Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Composed of 98% Cabernet Sauvignon with a 2% splash of Cabernet Franc, the very deep purple-black colored 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Cult is a little closed to begin, giving way to very youthful blackcurrants, blackberries, and warm plums notes plus touches of pencil shavings, spice box, garrigue, black olives and a waft of cinnamon stick. The palate is full, very firm, and very fresh with loads of black and blue fruit layers, finishing long and earthy. 425 cases produced. ~96 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (v. 2016)

The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Cult (I don’t really understand the name) is built along the same lines as its predecessors, and the blend is not terribly different (97% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Cabernet Franc). It is more similar than dissimilar to the Juliet – deep, rich, full-bodied, multi-dimensional, with stunning opulence and fabulous fruit and concentration. They produced 616 cases of this wine, which should be drunk over the next 20+ years. ~96+ Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (v. 2014)

Similarly styled is the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Cult, which is 98% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Cabernet Franc. The biggest cuvée of any of these wines (630 cases), the color is blackish/purple as a moonless night. It offers fabulous fruit and incredible density and richness, with lots of camphor, blackberry, and cassis fruit, hints of espresso bean and chocolate as well as some background oak. This is a big, full-throttle, savory style of wine that should age effortlessly for 20-25+ years. ~96 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (v. 2013)

As great as all these wines are, Beau Vigne’s top wine is the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Cult. From a dry-farmed vineyard, it exhibits an inky/blue/black color as well as beautiful, sweet kirsch liqueur notes intermixed with creme de cassis, unsmoked cigar tobacco, underbrush and loamy soil notes. The complex aromatics are followed by a fabulously rich, full-bodied, voluptuously textured wine revealing terrific purity as well as depth. This stunning 2012 should continue to drink well for 15-20+ years. ~98+ Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (v. 2012)
