Tasting notes: Beautifuly deep dark reds and purples indicate the massive
nature of this Estate Bordeaux blend. The warm dry vintage is
expressed by ripe aromas of figs, plums, and heavy florals filling the
nose. Bright acids and fall spice from Cab Franc and Merlot combine
with dark fruits from fully ripe Petit Verdot to build a simply colossal wine. Huge tannins from extended maceration fill the mid- palate before the wine turns more savory and elegant. Perfectly integrated French Oak accentuates the signature chalky mineral finishing notes, marking this wine as one of the truest expressions of West side Paso terroir.

Varietal Blend: 31% Merlot, 21% Cab Franc , 23% Cab Sauvignon 9% Malbec, 16% Petit Verdot

About the Winery

Father and daughter Lloyd Messer and Dana Brown realized their dream of finding a place to express their passion for wine in 2000, when they established Calcareous Vineyards on one of the highest limestone plateaus on Paso Robles’ westside. Both Lloyd and Dana, experienced wine distributors in their native Iowa, recognized the westside of Paso Robles had potential to produce world class wines. Their acquisition of 442 acres atop solid calcareous rock reaching 1,800 feet above sea level confirmed their dedication to producing the highest quality, terroir driven wines possible. It is a labor of love to cultivate fruit on this challenging land, but the reward is immediately apparent when tasting the wines.

Reviews

Blackberry juice, licorice, grape seed and dried ginger show on the nose of this jammy, spicy blend of 31% Merlot, 23% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Cabernet Franc, 16% Petit Verdot and 9% Malbec. It's rich in dark fruits at first, then tightens on clean and wound-up tannins, with intense pepper and rounded caramel toward the finish. ~91pts, WE

A big, strapping red, with a ripe, roasted aroma and flavors to match, including plenty of inky notes to the plum tart and dried blackberry fruit. The spicy finish is long, showing accents of chocolate nibs. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec. Drink now through 2022. 830 cases made. ~ 90pts, WS
