About the Wine

The only wine for your amour this Valentine's Day. This bottle of Beaujolais from the juicy Cru Saint-Amour is the perfect compliment for this year's Valentine's Day with a luscious French Old-Vine Gamay and make food & wine the stars of the evening!

We dare you to try this wine lightly chilled and paired with cranberries and stuffing! You’ll be the hero of the meal!

Chateau Bonnet was first built in 1630 operating as a hunting lodge until the 17th century when the Chateau was first used to produce delightful Beaujolais. The current owners didn't acquire the estate until 1973 Pierre Perrachon, an experienced winemaker in his own right, saw great potential in the Estate, and after some much-needed renovations at the domain and in the vineyard, Pierre transformed the Chateau into a well-equipped winemaking palace. Joined by his son Pierre-Yves in 1984, the Estate has made a significant move to become more environmentally friendly committed to eco-responsible viticulture, and hold great respect for the environment.

Bonnet is a relatively unknown producer that is the protagonist in a David vs Goliath battle for Beaujolais supremacy. Their wines aren't just impressively they're downright brilliant! Find out for yourself why we LOVE their Saint-Amour.

Winemaker Pierre-Yves uses native yeasts, whole bunch, and a malolactic fermentation to craft these expressive and complex Gamay wonders. The Saint-Amour vines are bestowed in weathered granite and sandstone soils that average 60 years of age. This wine comes from the Côte de Besset which is the highest point of the Saint-Amour appellation, at an altitude of 1240 feet!

Aging: 12 months in Stainless Steel

Tasting Notes: Red Wine. 100% Gamay. This gorgeous nose is fruity and floral with enticing aromas of wild strawberry, raspberry, and rose petals. On the palate, the wine is fruity, elegant, while maintaining poise and complexity with an everlasting crescendo.

Reviews

Another serious Beaujolais from this producer with red cherries married to rather full tannins. Yet, this remains bright and energetic. The long finish is firm and crisp, but also minerally. Try in 2020. ~92 James Suckling
