Today there are 250 estates in Montalcino; the large majority of which were founded after 2000. La Rasina is Suckling's #9 wine for 2012 vintage! It can be argued that those who were already in possession of vineyards were those that had the prime positions for vines, based on centuries of anecdotal experience.  La Rasina is one of those original wineries with three generations of history, tradition, and experience locked in the family's stately farmhouse. Marco Mantengoli painstakingly crafts his small-production Brunello di Montalcino from organic, hand-farmed vines. His wines boast intensely concentrated bright cherry fruit draped lushly over a rich core of velvety tannins and the slightest hint of fresh earth, Tuscan herbs, and saddle leather. Brunello lovers will delight in this venerable wine, and newcomers to the wines of Montalcino will be enchanted.

About the wine

Brick red and ruby tinged in color, this is a classic Brunello for the Tuscan lover. Those nose on this wine is filled with uplifting aromas of cinnamon, nutmeg, and a touch of exotic cardamom. Full-bodied with attention-grabbing tannins reminiscent of Turkish coffee, the wine is exquisitely balanced. Ripe, red-fruit overtones layer themselves into muscovado sugar and baker’s chocolate as the finish lingers for a pleasantly-long time. Consider this wine with an osso bucco, bistecca fiorentina, or any Tuscan specialty.

Reviews

A wonderfully precise and clear red with cherry, plum and floral character. Hints of lemons. Full body and firm and velvety tannins. Long and tannic. Yet this still shows polish. Better in 2020. 96JS
