About the Wine

Lombardy is the region in Northern Italy most prominently under seige as a result of COVID-19. This wine is from that region.
The wine growing and wine producing activity of the NERA family started in 1940 with Guido Nera, who was succeeded, at the end of the fifties, by his son Pietro, who united various hectares of vineyards adjacent to the winery’s original property. The vineyards are now owned by the winery Azienda Agricola CAVEN founded in 1982 by the brothers Stefano and Simone Nera.

Casa Vinicola Pietro Nera is one of the most important and prestigious wineries in the Valtellina and boasts a long tradition in enhancing and promoting the territory, as well as cultivating vineyards and producing high-quality, unique wines, which have been awarded certifications of merit in various national and international competitions.
The territory’s geographical layout prevents the use of mechanical equipment, so much so that Valtellina viticulture is described as heroic, as work has to be done mainly by hand. Between 1,200 and 1,400 man-hours of work are needed to tend each hectare of vineyard in the Valtellina. Another arduous and expensive activity is the work required to maintain the dry-stone walls that support the vineyards in the province of Sondrio. The overall length of the walls is 2,500 km, making the Valtellina the largest terraced mountain vine-growing region in Italy.
Produced only with Nebbiolo grapes, locally called "Chiavennasca", and with local historic grapes as Pignola and Rossola. Efesto is the God of Fire.
The Inferno production is called "Vini degli Dei". The wine matures for at least 24 months in barrels, 12 of them in oak barrels before release.
Bright ruby red color that becomes garnet with the ageing. Intense nose with a taste of raspberry and a light shade of violet. Elegant and persistent flavor.
