About the Wine

The Bad Boy is an original cuvée created by the illustrious Jean-Luc Thunevin in the 2000s. Produced from a careful selection of wines on the right bank, from properties managed or advised by Jean-Luc Thunevin. The grapes are harvested and vinified under the constant, careful, and meticulous watch of Thunevin's well-established winemaking team. The name for this cuvée came by way of American critic, Robert Parker, who often referred to Jean-Luc as Bordeaux's "black sheep" or "Saint Emillion's Bad Boy." Thunevin rose to prominence during the Right Bank garagiste movement of the 90s with the rise of his garage produced Chateau Valandraud. Jean-Luc produces the Bad Boy Cuvee with the same passion and creativity that helped him establish one of the biggest cult wines from Bordeaux's right bank.

Jean Luc Thunevin became a well-known figure in the wine world in less than a decade, thanks to its successful garage wine, Château Valandraud. Jean Luc aims to harvest at full maturity, he also copied the Burgundy vinification ways (pigeage…) to reach an optimum concentration. The wine is produced with a constant commitment to excellence.

Aging: 14 months in 100% New French Oak

Tasting Notes: Red Wine. 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc. On the nose, the showcases a fragrant bouquet of dark cherries, bergamot, and light stony scents. The palate is driven by dark red fruits like mulberry and red plum. The wine is medium-bodied with slightly coarse tannin, and a healthy kiss of spice towards the finish.

Reviews

The 2016 Bad Boy (aka naughty Jean-Luc Thunevin) is a blend 5% Cabernet Sauvignon and the remainder Merlot. It has a fragrant, quite floral bouquet this year with scents of black cherries, incense, and a touch of vanilla pod. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannin, fresh in the mouth with a citrus line of acidity, slightly granular in texture towards the finish that has good, Médoc-like structure. This is a fine follow-up to the 2015 Bad Boy. ~90 Wine Advocate
