About the Wine

For more than half a century, Chateau Lestage has been cultivating exceptional wines akin to the quality and caliber produced by neighboring vineyard Chateau Clarke, owned by Benjamin de Rothschild of Château Lafite Rothschild. Chateau Lestage was classified Cru Bourgeois Supérieur in 1932 which was re-certified in 2003. 2009 was a nearly flawless vintage that allowed a modest producer like Chateau Lestage to highlight and showcase this special vintage!

The Château Lestage vineyard dates back to Gallo-Roman times. Marcel Chanfreau bought the property in 1963 and his grandchildren are continuing his work today with a commitment to sustainable viticulture practices

Chateau Lestage’s 100-acre vineyard is located in Listrac-Médoc, an appellation located north of Margaux, which is also known to produce amazing long-lasting wines. This Château also owns 25 acres placed in Moulis en Medoc, within a terroir that is considered nearly perfect, located on the hillside with steep slopes. The vineyard surrounds the chateau and is located on the plateau of Puy de Menjon.

The terroir is mainly composed of Pyrenean gravel on the plateau, clay-limestone, and marl on the slopes. This particular terroir on the slopes is perfectly suited for growing complex and well-structured Merlot. Resulting in wines that age beautifully.

Aging: 12 Months in French Oak

Tasting Notes: Red Wine. 62% Merlot 37% Cabernet Sauvignon 1% Petit Verdot. This wine shows deep purple in color. On the nose strawberry and raspberry intermingled with vanilla. On the palate, offering ripe red fruit and black current. It shows good structure with silky tannins. The finish is long and harmonious. Given the bottle age, expect dried tea leaves, wet earth, and crimini mushrooms. This is a joy to drink.
