About the Wine

Why do we love so much Chardonnay? The “Queen of Whites” and the most widely planted white grape in the world has an unbeatable charm, no wonder some of the most expensive wines in the world are made with this grape. This variety is so versatile that it can be made in so many different styles and it always results in lovely wines!

2017 Patz & Hall Hyde Vineyard Chardonnay Carneros deliver us mineral flavors and aromas of wet stone, tropical notes, and a beautiful expression of the terroir.

The story began more than 40 years ago when winemaker James Hall and commercial director Donald Platz worked at the Flora Springs Winery and Vineyards.Their passion for making wine with traditional techniques from some elite vineyards led them to the creation of Platz & Hall. Currently, the owners are this pair of passionate friends plus their partners Anne Moses and Heather Patz.

James Hall, in addition to being the founder, is the winemaker of this modern winery. Since he was young, and thanks to the influence of his parents and his many trips to Europe, James began his passion for wine. His love for wine was so strong that he left his studies of Liberal Arts and transferred to one of the best viticulture universities in the world, the University of Davis.

James is passionate about wine and an expert and renowned winemaker; in fact, he was the one who designed the winery where all Patz & Hall wines are made. The winery is constantly modernized and avant-garde, but without neglecting the traditional way of making wine.

James Hall says: "After working with some of the finest vineyards in California for more than 30 years, I strive to remain true to my conviction that great wines are made in the vineyard."

Aging: in 100% French Oak Barrels, 38% new, 60% 1–2-year-old.

Tasting Notes: 100% Chardonnay. Aromas of white flowers, tangerine zest, honey, and cinnamon. Poised and energetic, this wine is citrus-driven with orange blossom, hints of yellow apple, and warm pie crust weaving a complex nose. Pair this wine with lobster, grilled fish, fruit tart.

Reviews

Silky smooth and sculptured in crisp apple, pear, and integrated oak, this showcases the famous site in all its complex glory, with accents of baking spice and brine. Medium-bodied, it displays richness within a context of balance and grace. ~94 Wine Enthusiast.

Rich, plush, and well-spiced, with plenty of nutmeg accents to the apple pastry, dried apricot, and pear flavors. The creamy finish is long and luscious, showing buttery details. Drink now through 2023. ~91 Wine Spectator.
