About the Wine

Over the past 20 years or more, Feudi di San Gregorio, in southern Italy’s Campania region, has played a leading role in fostering a winemaking revolution that extends across southern Italy and has led to a remarkable resurgence of regional wine industries. Throughout its short yet prolific history, the estate’s proprietors have cultivated Campania & Apulia’s finest vineyards and worked closely with some of Italy’s best enologists. The results have been remarkable — the wines of Feudi di San Gregorio meet time and again with stellar reviews and consistently garner international critical acclaim.

This highly acclaimed winery encourages us to rediscover the identity of Mediterranean flavors through indigenous grapes that reach their full potential with their modern winemaking approach.

Aging: 18-24 months in new French Oak, plus 24 months bottle aging.

Tasting notes: Lovely ruby red color. On the nose, sensations of fruit: blackberry, plum, and sour black cherry; a balsamic note, spices. The oak is a backbone but it’s not the pianoforte. The taste is soft, captivating, mineral, and balanced with elegant tannins and a persistent finish. Perfect with game, strong aged cheeses, roast and grilled lamb.

This wine is a dark horse that is still in its youth, as of Summer 2021. Aglianico is know to be extremely long-lived and Feudi’s top wine is no exception. Expect this to go on evolving through 2040. Buy a case and enjoy the ride for years to come.

Reviews

This special wine is aged for 18 months in oak and shows a massively long and intense finish, with evolving notes of black fruit, ash, prune, spice, leather, and bitter black chocolate. It showcases the hard work achieved by Feudi di San Gregorio over the years. This should age for 10 years or more. ~94 Wine Enthusiast

The 2007 Taurasi Riserva Piano di Montevergine caresses the palate with serious intensity, depth, and richness. Black cherries, plums, leather, licorice, and spices flesh out as the 2007 opens up in the glass. This is a decidedly plush, fruit-driven style, but it works. There is more than enough fruit to stand up to the obvious yet well-balanced oak. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2027. Once again, Feudi impresses for the sheer breadth of their range. From top to bottom, this is a terrific set of wines from one of the benchmark wineries in Campania, and all of Italy, for that matter. ~93+ Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Rustic yet ripe, exhibiting attractive flavors of blackberry, raspberry, and black cherry, framed by grippy tannins. Dense, this is slow to reveal a range of spice box, underbrush, and cedar accents. Best from 2014 through 2023. 1,000 cases made. ~92 Wine Spectator
