About the Wine

Hi Sang purchased the Howell Mountain estate winery in 2005, but the Dana Estates property has been recognized and farmed in Napa since 1883.

Dana is a Sanskrit term meaning “the Spirit of Generosity."

Philippe Melka has worked at Chateau Haut Brion, Dominus, and a slew of top properties in Napa where he runs a consultancy. He has worked with and been influenced by Christian Moueix at Petrus, Michel Rolland, Jean Delmas, and Paul Draper.

Blend: 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot, 3% Malbec, 1% Cabernet Franc

Although this spent 20 months in French oak, the wine sees less new oak than the Dana wines.

Tasting Notes:  Aromatically complex, this Vaso captures the different terroirs and varieties of this Cabernet blend with fragrances of red currant, plums, sage, and loam with hints of tobacco box and spices. The entry has flavors of Bing cherries and dried herbs as the hillside tannins fills out the mid palate. The wine supple yet structured palate. Ripe strawberry, forest floor, and a light minerality linger on the finish. Lush and approachable now, this wine will continue to develop as the years pass. Enjoy with roasted meats, grilled vegetables, or perhaps a rich wild mushroom risotto.

Reviews

A firm, chewy red with very attractive, chewy tannins and juicy fruit. Blue fruit and spices. Full body. Intense. Flavorful finish. Drink or hold. ~94JS
