On a magnificent gravel hilltop in the heart of the Saint-Estèphe terroir, there is a mysterious and fascinating land in medio aquaue (amid the waters), planted with the finest and nobles grape varieties… Welcome to the setting of Château Haut-Baradieu. It is also the history of an ancient Médoc family which has gradually built this estate over the generations. As early as 1678, parchments already mentioned a certain “Anney”, a ploughman in the village of Potensac in the Médoc. In 1876, his descendant Pierre began the Saint-Estèphe adventure by purchasing a small winegrowing property going by the name of “Villa Ossian”; it was later renamed Château Haut-Baradieu.

Over several generations the Anney family brought this vineyard to the forefront of the wine scene. With the same passion and energy as his forefathers, current owner & managing director Christophe Anney is now at the helm of this priceless terroir he has inherited. The utmost care and attention, the strictest requirements, next-generation equipment. No stone has been left unturned to produce a rare, smooth, charming wine with elegant yet powerful tannins.

Chateau Haut Baradieu is true boutique estate with only 3 hectares under vine and an annual production of approximately 1,600 cases; the average vines are over 40 years old.  The estate is situated in the commune of Saint Corbain, a short distance away from prestigious estates like Chateau Phelan Segur, Chateau Tour de Pez, & Chateau Meyney. The estate is planted to 60% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, & 5% Petit Verdot.

The 2010 Chateau Haut Baradieu is produced with great care and shows itself to be a dense & flavorful wine. Perfectly embodying the Saint-Estèphe character, a strong wine with powerful, velvety tannins, it demonstrates all the richness of its terroir.

Reviews

Quinessential Bordeaux nose, the wine jumps out of the glass. The time in bottle and the power of the 2010 vintage spring to life in this wine. After arriving ex-cellars, it has calmed down, but it has a long life ahead, which is a testament to the quality. Dark blackberry fruit, graphite/pencil shavings, a touch of wood, the wine is power, spice, and elegance wrapped in a big box with a red bow. 94+ BHW Staff
