About the Wine

Owned by Americans Stephen and Denise Adams, Château l’Enclos is a 10-hectare property situated on the western slope of Pomerol famous plateau. It encompasses 38 plots across 3 terraces of the appellation. A neighbor of Château Ausone, Clos René and with some plots near Château Le Pin, it enjoys a sandy-gravely surface soil with clay-iron subsoils. Romain González (previously at Faugere) crafts fleshy wines with silky tannins and lingering aromas of truffle, a sure sign of the very best of a Pomerol wine.

The vines average 35 years in age and are grown on silicious, gravel soil with layers of clay. The grapes are harvested by hand. Traditional concrete tanks are used for both the maceration and fermentation. Cold maceration is undertaken at first for 5 days, then fermentation and hot maceration is followed for 30 days in thermoregulated vats. Only 2000 cases produced.

Aging: 18 months in French oak barrels, 40% new & 60% second use.

Tasting Notes: Red Wine. 85% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc, 3% Malbec. Deep ruby color with solid concentration. Generous aromas of blackberries. Rich, concentrated palates with dark fruit flavors, silky tannins, and an elegant finish.

Reviews

A soft and velvety-textured red with chocolate, berry, and spice character. Some walnuts, too. Medium to full body. Flavorful finish. ~92 James Suckling
