About the Wine
In the Napa Valley, the Salvestrins are known by wine enthusiasts for their dedication to the production of handcrafted, uniquely expressive estate wines, by their neighbors and friends for their sustainability efforts, and by wine club members for their authentic hospitality. Established in 1932 by Italian Immigrants John & Emma Salvestrin the estate was used to sell grapes after prohibition. Third Generation, Rich Salvestrin, took the estate to new heights in 1994 when the inaugural vintage of the Salvestrin Cabernet Sauvignon made its triumphant debut.
The Estate has been family-owned and operated for 88 years. Since its inception, the family has maintained sustainable practices in the vineyard and in the winery. Both the vineyards and winery are certified Napa Green. This is one of Salvestrin's top bottling produced from the coveted Dr. Crane Vineyard.
Aging: 20 Months in 75% New French Oak
Tasting notes: 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Merlot. The wine opens with notes of black cherry, dried tobacco, pencil shavings, and thyme. Medium-plus in weight, the core is velvety in texture and framed by powdery refined tannins. Dried sage and blood orange shine through on the finish, which has notable persistence. Driven by finesse with a hint of minerality, this expression of the Dr. Crane Vineyard site is unadulterated, unfined, and unfiltered.
Blended with 10% Merlot, the deep garnet-purple colored 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Dr. Crane Vineyard gives up warm red and black fruits, earth, and iron ore with notes of meats and cedar. The palate is full-bodied, firm, and chewy with a good core, finishing long and mineral-laced. ~93+ Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2017 Salvestrin Dr. Crane Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon fine-tunes the space between power and elegance. This wine shows an excellent raciness in its aromas and flavors of red and black fruits. Pair it with lightly-seasoned, grilled lamb chops. ~93 Wilfred Wong
