About the Wine

Today, Camigliano produces award-winning, organic Sangiovese. But, it's history is a compelling story that mirrors the feuding states of medieval Toscana and was the site of a famous battle between the Sienese and Pisans. From the Etruscan era to WWII, the land underneath these vines is truly historic and has been meticulously maintained for growth.

The symbol of Camigliano: the camel, found on a seal dating to the 13th century, can be connected to the influence of the papacy in the area, and there is speculation of connection to the movements of the Crusades that reached the Holy Land due to the castle's location on the pilgrimage routes to Rome.

The modern history dates from 1957 when Walter Ghezzi, a successful Milanese businessman, purchased and renovated the property. Walter's son continues the legacy of maintaining its medieval past whilst advancing the practices of this historic estate.

Established in 1983, Rosso di Montalcino is the younger brother to Brunello di Montalcino with plenty of class and maturity to stand up to the older sibling. Rosso di Montalcino is a younger wine that combines a special vivacity and freshness with a superb structure.

Aging: 6 months in Slavonian and French oak barrels

Tasting notes: Ruby red color. The nose is very fruity, of red ripe fruits. It has a good acidity and smooth texture, well balanced between tannin and alcohol. The after taste id fruity and mineral, with a good persistence.

Reviews

There’s good blue fruit to this with violets, bilberries and spices. Medium body, undertones of fresh citrus and a medium-chewy finish. From organically grown grapes. Drink now. ~91JS
