About the Wine

Telescope was born from the loving relationship of Seth and Zori. Zori, a Bulgaria woman, introduced her American husband Seth to Bulgarian wine. This introduction kickstarted the creation of Telescope. With Seth and Zori great passion for Bulgarian wine, they decided to bring these vibrant and dynamic wines to the US.

Though not a large country, Bulgaria has several different climate areas. Beyond climates, it's easiest to think about Bulgaria in terms of five main viticulture areas: Thracian Valley, Danube Plain, Black Sea Coast, Rose Valley, and Struma Valley. Each offers a unique combination of soil, topography, sunshine, wind, and rain. Like other wine-growing regions of the world, each can be subdivided even further. The Thracian Valley rests on the same latitudinal plane as Tuscany and Rioja

The 2014 Red Blend is from Bulgaria's Thracian Valley. The grapes were harvested and sorted by hand, fermented in concrete, and aged for twelve months in French oak barrels. Vanilla and subtle cigar box aromas combine with a palate of dark fruit and leather in this memorable blend of Syrah, Merlot, and Petit Verdot.

Aging: 10 months in French Oak barrels.

Tasting Notes: 100% Syrah, Merlot, and Petit Verdot.

Reviews

Medium dusty ruby color. Toasty, inviting aromas and flavors of graphite cedar pencil shavings, berry tart crust, herb roasted carrots, tomatoes, and sweet potatoes, and artisan coffee with borscht with a silky, bright, dry-yet-fruity medium body and a smooth, interesting, medium-long craisin, spiced tomato, praline, and minerals finish with light oak. A superbly balanced and highly polished gem from Bulgaria's Thracian Valley glistening with complex fruity and savory facets. ~91 Tastings.com
