About the wine

Established in 2003, Haras de Pirque is quickly establishing itself as one of the primer producers of the Maipo Valley. In 2017, Marchesi Antinori took over the estate with the goal of building "a great wine in the image of Antinori." The vineyards are surrounded by the estate’s thoroughbred racetrack and breeding farm and the state-of-the-art horseshoe-shaped winery. The Estate has been dedicated to organic practices since 2006 and finally received certification in 2016. Under Antinori's guidance, Haras de Pirque, with continue to climb the ranks of primer South American wine.

Located 1,800 to 2,100 feet above sea level Haras de Pirque, sits in one of the most prestigious and historical areas of the Maipo Valley. It resides at the foothills of the cordillera de Los Andes, in a privileged zone for planting vineyards. The climate is Mediterranean, highly influenced by the proximity of the mountain range and the Pacific Ocean anticyclone that rises through the open valley. The great temperature swings favor a slow ripening and, as a consequence, excellent quality of the grapes. The vines were planted in 1992 and the parcels are continuously selected for the special flavors and ripeness of the fruit.

Aging: 18 months in 50% new French oak barrels

Tasting notes: Red Wine. 60% Cabernet Sauvignon. 40% Carménère. On the nose, the wine has a classic expression of the Cabernet and Carménère of the Maipo Andes region, full of mint, graphite, and chocolate with a long and elegant finish and still firm tannins, the mouth is full of herbal notes, freshness, and black fruits. This great wine will evolve beautifully in the bottle.

Reviews

Plenty of blackberries and blackcurrants with hints of fresh herbs and mint. Full body, super well-integrated tannins, and a fresh, clean finish. Shows balance and finesse. A blend of cabernet sauvignon and Carmenere. ~93JS

Albis is the most expensive wine at Haras and gets the 50% new oak treatment to prove it. Made from Cabernet Sauvignon and Carmenère, some of which is co-fermented, it's a dense, concentrated red with lots of alcohol and tannin and layers of blackberry and blackcurrant fruit. ~92TA
