About the Wine

In the south-west of the Saint-Estèphe appellation, just a stone’s throw from Château Cos d’Estournel and Château Lafite-Rothschild, the elegant chartreuse residence at Lilian Ladouys will catch your eye on the vine-covered horizon. In 2008, the Lorenzetti family instantly fell in love with this history-seeped sleeping beauty of a house. The vineyards and cellars have since been fully restructured and Lilian Ladouys is now ready to step back into the spotlight. On 20th February 2020, the verdict was handed down: Château Lilian Ladouys had been classified as a Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel!

Since the Lorenzetti family took over in 2008, the Domaine has undergone extensive restructuring works in its vineyards. They made the decision to bring the focus back to its finest, primarily gravel terroirs with the objective of taking quality to new levels. The Domaine has become much stricter during the selection process for the first and second wines. In 2020 the Chateau made the commitment to convert their vineyards to 100% organic agriculture by 2023. The Lorenzetti family is taking this Domaine to new heights and it's only a matter of time before they're firmly placed within the upper echelon of Bordeaux Chateau!

Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot make up the majority of the blend, with the proportions varying from one year to the next. They are supplemented by Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. The estate’s wines go into gravity-fed vats and undergo vinification with a partially gravity-based system, which is more sensitive to the integrity and subtleties of the grapes and the wine.

Aging: 14 months in 40-60% New French Oak

Tasting notes: Red Wine. Cabernet Sauvignon 45% Merlot 50% Petit Verdot 4% Cabernet Franc 1%. The wine has a rich and crisp structure with ripe tannins, refined oak which melts into an explosion of fruit. It has the opulence and length of a Saint-Estèphe fine wine. Thanks to the appellation’s limestone-clay subsoils, its power is balanced out by a wonderful sensation of freshness.

Reviews

This is very ripe with toffee, spice, truffles, and chocolate, as well as ripe-fruit and meat character on the nose and palate. Full body, soft tannins, and a flavorful finish. Drink or hold. ~93 James Suckling

A fine and spicy wine, the wood toast well integrated with the sweet fruit. Deliciously ripe Merlot vies with the Cabernet tannins to give a dark, complex wine. ~93 Wine Enthusiast

On the toasty, more modern side of the spectrum, with ambitious roasted fig, applewood, and blueberry confiture notes followed by racy graphite, espresso, and blackberry pâte de fruit. Not shy, but has the density for balance. Best from 2013 through 2024. ~92 Wine Spectator
