About the Wine

This fresh and energetic Barbera is an ace in the hole for what barbera should be. The Castello di Gabiano has been producing wine on-site for over four hundred years and there is no mistaking that kind of experience with the quality of these wines. With just a touch of bottle age on this serious representation of this fun-loving grape, this bottle is showing beautifully right now.

Today Giacomo Cattaneo Adorno, the last Marquis of Gabiano, and his wife Emanuela are passionate and determined. They are directly engaged in intensive wine production, and above all are committed to capture the characteristics of the terroir to extract the essence. In this way, they can assure that the wine-making tradition of the family, updated with the current enology knowledge, can stand with the greats.

Aging 16 months in oak: 50% in barriques and 50% in large barrels. Another 6 months in bottle.

Tasting Notes: 100% Barbera. Bright Ruby in the glass. The nose evokes vibrant red fruits followed by spices, tobacco, and leather. The mouthfeel is velvety and balanced with a long-lasting finish.

Reviews

Aromas of blueberries and blackberries with some tar, too. Medium body, light tannins and a crisp finish. Plenty of orange peel character. Drink now. ~91 James Suckling (2015 vintage)
