About the Wine

Viña Errazuriz is one of the most emblematic wineries in all of Chile. Its continuous search for perfection led them to be recognized by Robert Parker in its Extraordinary Winery Awards as “The Best Chilean Winery”in 2017. And in 2022, it was named for the 7th year in a row as “One of the 15 World’s Most Admired Wine Brands”by Drinks International.

Errazuriz is perfection from beginning to end and it is safe to say that this winery has put the country on a high note thanks to its production of premium, elegant and incomparable wines.

The history of this Viña started with Maximiano Errázuriz when he established the winery back in 1870. He was a visionary, innovative man who planted the first vines in today's famous Aconcagua Valley. Back in the day, this Valley was being overlooked, but Max knew well that this was a promising region; he stated, “the best wine comes from the best land.”

Today, the winery is managed by the fifth generation of the Errazuriz family, Eduardo Chadwick. He studied and worked in Bordeaux, where he learned the art of winemaking and crafting elegant premium wines. 1995 was an important year for the family since this was the year when he decided to create a wine together with the emblematic Robert Mondavi.

Viña Errazuriz never ceases to surprise the world with high-quality wines. In 2013, Errazuriz's iconic wine, Don Maximiano Founder's Reserve, was awarded 'Best in Show' and 'Best Super Premium Red' by Wines of Chile.

Vinous Media said "Viñedo Chadwick has been a wine to be reckoned with. Although the reputation of Cabernets from Maipo has been excellent for a while, recently, clear ideas and knowledge of the terroir have raised standards even further."They spoke about this particular label, stating that "this is one of the wines that put Chile on the global map."

2011 Errazuriz Vinedo Chadwick Maipo Valley is an award-winning, extremely exciting wine. James Suckling gave it a 97-point review, stating that it “reminds me of the great Napa Valley cabernet sauvignons of the 1960s.” While Vinous Media stated that it “comes off as elegant and lithe” in its 94 Point review. This is a beautiful wine, and after 11 years of its production, TODAY is its perfect drinking time!

Tasting Notes: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. See Critical Reviews for detailed tasting notes.

Reviews

This reminds me of the great Napa Valley cabernet sauvignons of the 1960s. Currant and hot stone character with hints of sage. Shows tension and form, with a flavourful palate and firm texture. Drink or hold. ~97 James Suckling

Inky ruby. Highly perfumed scents of ripe black and blue fruits, cola, smoky herbs, and rose oil. Fleshy, expansive blackberry and bitter cherry flavors deliver a suave blend of richness and energy, picking up a hint of anise with air. Stains the palate with flavor but comes off as elegant and lithe, with no excess fat and distinct freshness.Finishes juicy and penetrating, with an array of musky spice qualities and slow-building tannins. ~94 Vinous Media

A very cold year has given a delicate Viñedo Chadwick, very focused on acidity and red fruits. Winemaker Francisco Baettig opted to reduce the new oak for the first time (77% new oak here, instead of the usual 100%) to respect the character of the vintage, a maneuver that has given positive results. This is still very young and very vital, with notes of fresh mint and crispy red fruits. You should make some room in your cellar for this. ~94 Decanter
