About the Wine

Started in 1981 by Justin Baldwin, Justin Winery has become a standard-bearer in Paso Robles and Central Coast. Justin is a wine Rockstar and eminence in California; he was named by wine critic Robert Parker Jr one of his “Wine Heroes” and he has appeared on Wine Enthusiast’s list of Top Cabernet and Blended Wine Producers for the past seven years.

In 2010, billionaire Stewart Resnick purchased the winery, ushering in new investment in vineyards, operations, and infrastructure. Mr. Resnick has cornered the market with well-known grocery products like POM pomegranate drink, FIJI water, Wonderful Pistachios, and Halo citrus. From strength to strength, Justin winery continues expansion in quality and distribution. Justin Baldwin is still involved in the winery, but now he’s focusing on what he loves more: Making great wines and outstanding blends! “Winemaking is an art, not a science, it’s an expression of the winemaker in the bottle”, he says. The success of Justin's Cabernet and Bordeaux-inspired blends achieved to put Paso Robles on the map.

Justin Winery has four different vineyards located in some of the most important subregions of Paso Robles. These vineyards share terroir similarities with one of the most esteemed wine regions in the world, Bordeaux! The combination of the soils composed of limestone and marine deposits, the climate with ideal thermal differentials, and the grape varieties that are planted, allow the production of world-class Bordeaux-style blends.

The winemaking at Justin Winery is a work of art. Fred Holloway, alongside Scott Shirley, are the expert winemakers who have combined old and new world winemaking styles and techniques, accomplishing exquisite and top-tier wines.

In addition to being a very successful winery, Justin also offers an impressive and luxury experience for travelers and foodies. Without a doubt, a must-stop on your next trip to Paso Robles!

Aging: 24 months barrel aging in 100% new French oak

Tasting Notes: : 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Cabernet Franc and 5% Merlot. This is an exceptionally showy wine that exhibits a rare mix of intensity, complexity, and balance with a great combination of aromas, flavors, and textures. It’s really the star of the show and drinks nicely on its own, but pairs beautifully with roasted dishes.

Reviews

“More Cabernet dominated, the 2013 Isosceles Reserve is comprised of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot it was aged two years in French oak. Its deep ruby, saturated color is followed by a decadent, concentrated, voluptuously textured Cabernet that offers tons of currants, graphite, lead pencil shavings, and licorice. Reminding me of a 2009 Bordeaux from the Pessac region, drink this pleasure blend beauty anytime over the coming decade as well.” ~94 Points, Jeb Dunnuck.

“There's an impressive fresh quality to the nose of this blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Cabernet Franc and 5% Merlot, with aromas of blackberry, juicy black plum, dill, lilacs, and a dusting of vanilla. The fruit-forward palate grabs the attention immediately with black currant, pepper dust, roast beef crust, and more purple flowers, with tannins and acidity rising strongly on the finish.” ~93 Points, Wine Enthusiast.

“Composed of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Cabernet Franc and 5% Merlot, the 2013 Isosceles Reserve gives a very deep garnet-black color and nose of crème de cassis, baked blackberries, dried mulberries and preserved plums with hints of cedar box and Provence herbs, plus a waft of rare beef. The full-bodied palate is still wearing a lot of oak, with very firm, chewy tannins supporting the ripe fruit, finishing on a woody note.” ~91+ Points, Robert Parker.

Complex aromas of dusty herb, cedar, loamy earth and supple, juicy blackberry make for an engaging drink that's smooth and silky. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Drink now through 2030. 3,800 cases made.” ~90 Points, Wine Spectator
