About the wine

In the Ricasoli family’s top bottling, Sangiovese harmonizes with a dash of Merlot and touch of Cab Sauv to give this Chianti a modern edge. Winemaker Carlo Ferrini--called one of Italy’s top winemakers by Wine Spectator and chosen as global winemaker of the year in 2007--deftly blends these grapes into a ripe and rich Chianti and we simply can’t resist. Estate grown and bottled, this Chianti Classico Gran Selezione--the top rating for Chianti wines--flaunts its terroir with flavors of fresh cherry, dried herbs, and the signature earthiness of Tuscany. Full-bodied and spicy from the start, this wine is driven by dark fruit and is sure to turn many simple suppers into masterpieces with its long, luxurious finish.

Made from select parcels of the best fruit from within the Ricasoli’s 230 hectares of vineyard, the Castello di Brolio is the grand vin of Italy’s oldest estate. Far from old-school, the wine is expertly crafted by critically acclaimed winemaker Carlo Ferrini with a fresh twist. Elegant and smooth on the palate, it combines Chianti’s signature red fruit and herbal tones with well-integrated tannins and a plush mouthfeel. From the blockbuster 2010 vintage, this wine is deeply concentrated in color. The Castello di Brolio is bright and well-balanced with moderate tannins. At heart, it’s a red that truly speaks of its Tuscan origins with herbaceous aromas and a long, lingering finish perfect for enjoying over a long meal. Note: The 2009 vintage of this wine was chosen by Wine Spectator #5 on their annual list of Top 100 wines. The 2010 is a superior wine and vintage.

Reviews

A wine with lots of blueberries and mushrooms on the nose and palate. Full body, with chewy tannins that are polished and attractive. Long, intense flavours. Gorgeous. Perhaps the best Castello di Brolio since 1997. 96JS
