About the Wine

Chateau Bonnet was first built in 1630 operating as a hunting lodge until the 17th century when the Chateau was first used to produce delightful Beaujolais. The current owners didn't acquire the estate until 1973 Pierre Perrachon, an experienced winemaker in his own right, saw great potential in the Estate, and after some much-needed renovations at the domain and in the vineyard, Pierre transformed the Chateau into a well-equipped winemaking palace. Joined by his son Pierre-Yves in 1984, the Estate has made a significant move to become more environmentally friendly committed to eco-responsible viticulture, and holds great respect for the environment.

Bonnet is a relatively unknown producer that is the protagonist in a David vs Goliath battle for Beaujolais supremacy. Their wines aren't just impressively they're downright brilliant! Find out for yourself why we LOVE their Chénas.

Winemaker Pierre-Yves uses native yeasts, whole bunch, and malolactic fermentation to craft these expressive and complex Gamay wonders. The Chénas vines are bestowed in weathered granite and sandstone soils that average 45 years of age. This wine comes from the Côte de Besset which is the highest point of the Saint-Amour appellation, at an altitude of 1240 feet!

Aging: 10 - 18 months in foudre.

Tasting Notes: 100% Gamay. This gorgeous nose is fruity and floral with enticing aromas of wild strawberry, raspberry, and rose petals. On the palate, the wine is fruity, elegant, while maintaining poise and complexity with an everlasting crescendo.

Reviews

This may be a light red, but it’s got bright blackberries and lively but not sharp acidity. The slightly sappy finish cries out for picnic food. Drink now. ~90 James Suckling (v. 2017)
