About the Wine

Marqués de Riscal is one of the oldest Rioja wineries. Founded in Elciego (Álava) in 1858 by Guillermo Hurtado de Amézaga, the winery has been a reference point at both national and international level. The winery itself is literally a work of art, designed and "Wrapped" by Frank Gehry. The winery also features a luxury hotel for guests.

The company produces its wines in two different bodegas located in Elciego (Álava) and Rueda (Valladolid). Marqués de Riscal exports 60% of its production, distributing to more than 80 countries. Marqués de Riscal wines have received the highest international accolades as well as numerous awards and mentions in the critical press.

Marqués de Riscal was the first non-French wine to win the diploma of honor of the Bordeaux Exhibition. This diploma was added to the wine’s label and to this day is represented on the wine bottles with pride.

Finca Torrea is a blend of 90% Tempranillo and 10% Graciano that ages for 18 months in French and American oak. The wine label is an abstraction of the famous architecture of the winery building and vineyard plots themselves.

Finca Torrea is different than the wines traditionally produced byMarqués de Riscal. It has a more modern character, with greaterfruitiness and fewer balsamic nuances, with a shorter period ofcask ageing, using French oak casks, and also shorter bottleageing.

Tasting Notes: Red wine. Black-cherry-color, with violet hueswhich signify youthfulness and goodevolution. Intense, concentratedaroma with dark berried fruit (plums, blackberries and blueberries) whichmingle elegantly with the tertiaryaromas from the oak ageing, bringingout balsamic notes of licorice andeucalyptus, a fine base of carameland toffee, and a spicy, mineral finishwhich gives the wine great aromaticcomplexity. On the palate it is suppleand oily, with good backbone, in whichthe taste sensations appear at all timeswith great finesse and elegance. Ithas a very pleasant finish, long andlingering with a balsamic, spicy, mineralretronasal sensation that seems to goon and on.
