Casar de Burbia first started to acquire vineyards in the early 1980s. The focus of the estate was to purchase old vineyards of native varieties and farm them to their best abilities. Currently, the second generation of the family runs the winery. At a very minimum, the grapes are farmed Organically. The health of the vineyard and farming in a sustainable method is very important to the ethos of this estate. This Mencia is a bright, refreshing, and classically styled wine ready to drink today!
This estate has been committed to showcasing Spanish grapes in their purest form possible since the beginning. This dedication to expression has moved the winery into micro vinifications, keeping individual plots of grapes separate during the wine-making process. The estate producers nearly all of the wine in large foudres, again to implement very little oak influence on the wine allowing for the grape characteristics to be the focal point of the wine.
Not only is this estate dedicated to making great wine in each given vintage, but with any spare time available they are also looking to make even better wine in future vintages. Casar de Burbia spends a lot of time and resources to study every aspect of their winemaking process, from microbiology in the fermentation to the soil composition in the vineyard. They conduct a chemical analysis on the wine as it ages and through the vinification. This is a team to keep your eye on because the sky seems to be the limit here.
