After 10+ years in barrel this is an outstanding wine to enjoy at a fraction of the original cost. The wine has spent another 10+ years in bottle and the graceful ageing makes for a very interesting wine to drink. Toasted hazelnuts, bitter almond, sweet ginger, and a touch of orange caramel makes this a wonderful port to enjoy.
Since they are fortified and lightly oxidized in the ageing process, tawny ports are stable for many weeks or months after opening.
Santa Eufemia is one of the few Portuguese owned Port producers. This is a fourth generation family enterprise, but it was not until 1992 that they began to commercialize wines under their own name. The Carvalho family crafts tiny quantities of superb vintage Port as well as a range of aged tawnies up to 40 years of age. They excel with rare white ports and colheitas. They also produce dry white and red wines.
