About the Wine

It's no secret that Washington state wines have given much to talk about! With increasingly extraordinary wines coming from this region, advanced wineries with modern technology, and perfect soil for the vine, today this state deliver us one of the best Cabs in the entire country.

Red Mountain is an AVA (American Viticultural Area) located in Benton, Washington, it is the smallest AVA in the entire state and specializes in planting red varieties, especially Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sangiovese, Cabernet Franc, and Syrah. This area is undoubtedly one of the regions with the best reputation in the entire state and Red Mountain wines have managed to be recognized and admired worldwide!

Red Mountain is certainly an exotic area. A terroir that is a complete paradise for the vine, privileged climate that has very marked temperatures between day and night, and more hours of sunlight than in any other region of the Columbia Valley.

Upchurch Vineyard began the planting of their vineyard in 2007, and after 14 years, 10 harvests, and many accumulated experiences, they are responsible for extraordinary wines that will completely dazzle you with every sip you take!

Chris and Thea Upchurch are the proud owners of this family project. The winemaking is in charge of Chris. Chris awakened his love for wine after several visits to some of the most important and emblematic Châteaux in Europe. Chris has been involved in various sectors of the wine industry, starting as a merchant and in restaurants, allowing him to try many labels from different regions and he trained his palate to become a Pro of the industry! Chris also worked as a winemaker for some of the best wineries in the state.

Chris and Thea are responsible for the environment, the vineyard, and the flora and fauna. The Upchurch vineyard is sustainable, certified by LIVE (Low Input Viticulture and Enology),and they also have a Salmon-Safe certification, dedicated to restoring agricultural and urban watersheds so that salmon can thrive.

Tasting Notes: 91% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot. Fresh and expressive, where currants and violets are apparent right away. Black cherries thyme, cracked pepper, and sage add to its complexity. Mouthwatering ripe tannins, structured, and balanced. The finish is long and beautiful. Pair this wine with steak, grilled lamb or grilled portobello.

Reviews

Blended with 9% Merlot, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Upchurch Vineyard has an impressive nose that embodies the essence of a world-class Cabernet. It doesn't have the pyrazine notes of green bell pepper on the nose, as the fruit is focused yet almost shy. After I got the glass spinning, the aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant, and black plum all sing with elegance and ease. The medium to full-bodied palate is clean and focused, showing a mineral tension with a balanced backbone with an excellent structure to carry this wine for decades. The wine is finessed with a silken tapestry of complex black fruit and rocky earth that drinks with excellent precision. The wine ends is long and taut on the extended finish that continues to evolve and show more of its secrets as time goes on. It's an exceptional wine that should age in the cellar like a champion. I have a feeling that the price is going to increase, so get it now. ~96 Robert Parker.

The aromas are locked up at first, displaying notes of earth, dark cherry, and spice. Dense, focused, structured fruit flavors follow. One of the wines of the vintage.Don't go near this one until at least 2024. It will have a long life in the cellar beyond that. ~94 Wine Enthusiast

Precise and polished, with expressive black cherry, spiced cinnamon, and black olive flavors that pick up speed toward big but refined tannins. Drink now through 2027. ~92 Wine Spectator.
