    About the wine

Bertani’s impact on Veneto wine making, particularly in Amarone production, is so considerable that ‘Bertani’ and ‘Amarone’ are nearly synonymous. Their 150+ year history is dotted with groundbreaking initiatives and royal accreditation. While respectful of their past, Bertani strives towards innovation, using progressive techniques and equipment allied with extensive experience and a deeply felt respect for tradition to provide wines of uncompromising quality.

The grapes come from the Tenuta Novare vineyards at Arbizzano di Negrar, in the heart of the Valpolicella Classica area. Their 220 ha vineyards are covered with calcareous-marl soils and are devoted exclusively to the production of Amarone.

Aging: 6 years in Slavonian oak barrels. 12 months in bottle before release.

Tasting notes: Firstly there are the typical notes of plum, cherry, and morello cherry on the nose, followed by a great variety of tones: nuts, tea leaves, licorice, and spices. On the palate, there are hints of red berry fruits, softened by plush vanilla notes, in perfect harmony with the acidity and tannins. It can be drunk with red meat, game, mature cheeses, but it is also perfect as a meditation wine at the end of a meal.

    Reviews

A subtle red, with a hint of smoky mineral underscoring the dried cherry, cocoa powder, and dried thyme notes. Fresh and elegant, framed by fine tannins and offering a lingering, silky finish. Drink now through 2025. ~91 Wine Spectator

Aromas of leather, menthol, dried fruit, exotic spice, and a balsamic note emerge on this full-bodied wine. On the firmly structured palate, a tannic backbone supports dried black cherry, raisin, licorice, and tobacco. ~91 Wine Enthusiast

Good full ruby. Reticent aromas and flavors of violet, dried herbs, and ripe red cherry. Slightly disjointed acidity and spicy, noteworthy tannins gives this an edgy quality on the tactile, medium-long finish which features plenty of botanical herb and spice nuances. I like this wine’s traditional aromas and flavors, but I found it to be a little fruit-challenged at present; perhaps it’s going through a closed phase at present. The lack of fruit causes the acidity and the tannins to stick out more, but maybe all this needs is a little time to come around, and in that case, my score will look ungenerous. ~90 Vinous Media
