About the Wine

Praise has followed Ca dei Frati since 1782. Felice Dal Cero, an experience wine grower from Verona, took over the estate in 1939 and spent 30 years building upon the foundation laid before him. 81 years later, later the estate is in the hands of the young and bright fourth-generation. Since 1939, their approach and focus have remained the same, meticulous attention to detail of vineyard while working in harmony with nature and the terroir producing wines with the utmost purity and complexity. The grapes are vinified separately in order to promote the finest expression of terroir. Ca dei Frati is one of the unsung heroes scripted in Italy's wine history and has only recently been imported to the US. Find out what makes these wines best sellers in the UK, Germany, and Italy!

The region of Valpolicella has been inhabited uninterruptedly from prehistory until today. Thanks to the protection of the Lessini mountains and natural exposure from the southern sun, Valpolicella is a unique location and climate for growing ultra-high quality grapes and making elegant and complex wines. Valpolicella’s most precious gift is its grapes: the vines extend over the whole territory, blending and integrating with the landscape. Over time the grapes have created tradition and history, weaving their tendrils with the life of the growers and populations who chose this land as their home, inspiring the art of many artists and academics. Valpolicella, which is known worldwide as the cradle of Amarone, is a region that is full of history inserted in a unique context, just like the wines it produces.

Aging: 24 months in barriques.

Tasting notes: Red Wine. Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella, and Croatina. The ruby color captivates with its tone and intensity. The fruit is exuberant with a very pleasurable sour cherry taste, merged with hints of chocolate and sweet spices. The subtlety enhances the floral component of the purple rose. Balsamic notes emerge with increasing conviction, along with hints of star anise and wild gooseberry. The tertiary elements are subtle and leave the perception of pleasurable notes of arabica and mild tobacco. It finds its utmost expression at the table with seasoned cheeses, well-cooked meats, braised dishes, and game.

Reviews

A blue-fruit-tinged Amarone, this shows lots of dark cherries, treacle tart, Chinese plum liqueur, and Christmas pudding, as well as hints of tar. Full body, ripe and round tannins, pretty acidity, and a full-throttle finish. Drink in 2020. ~93 James Suckling

Dense sweet chocolate, sultana, and sweet spice nose. Big, round, intense, and deep palate of sweet ripe fruit and spice; long, fresh finish. ~92 Decanter
