About the Wine

The history of the Frescobaldi family starts over a thousand years ago and is closely connected with the history of Tuscany. At the high point of medieval Florence, the Frescobaldis spread their influence as bankers, earning the title of treasures to the English crown. A little later, with the flowering of the Renaissance, they became patrons of major works in Florence, such as the construction of the Santa Trinita bridge and the Basilica of Santo Spirito.

Castelgiocondo is a premier property located SW of Montalcino. The finest Sangiovese come from a vineyard whose ideal elevation, well-drained soils, and southwest-facing exposure yield all of the qualities to produce a great expression of the variety. It is an elegant, well-balanced wine of magnificent structure and is made with organically grown grapes.

Vintage Report from James Suckling:

"The 2015 vintage is an historical year for Brunello and nobody should miss it. The wines show impressive precision of vivid fruit, fine tannins and freshness in acidity despite their ripeness and richness which makes them some of the most exciting in years. The growing season in 2015 was impressive. The winter and spring had plenty of rain to make up for the intense sun and heat during the summer. There was some rain in September before the harvest to freshen the vineyards. And as noted before, good vineyard management compensated for the hot weather during the growing season, and sorting out dried grapes at harvest was extremely important for making exceptional wines."

Reviews

This is a pure and beautiful Brunello with super fine and abundant tannins that are comprehensive and expansive. Builds on the palate. Full body. Round and firm with beautiful fruit and length. Lively and vivid. From organically grown grapes. Needs a year or two to soften, but already gorgeous.~ 97 JS
