About the Wine

If you've been to Tuscany, you know magic imbues the air, land and wine. Owners of the famed Grand Cru Classe properties in Margaux, Ch. Giscours and Ch. du Tertre, were intoxicated by the potential of this property located south of Pisa and purchased it in 2003. After upgrading the property with feng shui inspired new cellars, biodynamic farming, and a crew that included a winemaker with degrees from both Dijon and Bordeaux, Caiarossa was born. Named after the red earth (think Etruscan pottery) and the mother of all gods, Gaia, the top wine is a mystical blend of Bordeaux varietals, Sangio, etc.
As buyers, we see deals every day, but this one was too good to pass up. In this case, we have a relative newcomer to the market that changed hands a few times among importers.

BHW has far and away the lowest price in the US on this wine! We are more than 20% below the lowest Wine-searcher competition!

Note, this is the winery's flagship Caiarossa Caiarossa wine, not their lesser wines. Also worth noting, Bolgheri's famous Supertuscan estates are located a short 25km away. 2010 is a 97pt rated vintage by VM in Tuscany.

Reviews

A full-bodied red with so much ripe berry and plum fruit that it verges on jammy, yet it turns out velvety and delicious. Will improve with age. A blend of cabernet franc, merlot, sangiovese, cabernet sauvignon, petit verdot, syrah, and alicante. Made from biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold. ~94 pts, JS

An IGT Toscana blend of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Syrah and Alicante, the 2010 Caiarossa is a tremendous wine. The bouquet is rich and compelling with deep layers of dark fruit, spice and chocolate. Given the complexity of the blend, it's hard to identify any single variety although the softness of Merlot and the structure of the two Cabernet grapes definitely comes through in the mouth.

Caiarossa offers a full range of fascinating wines from the Pisa area of coastal Tuscany. These wines are always a treat to taste and they remind us of the winemaking potential of this unknown area. ~ 93pts, WA
