About the Wine

Clos de Lunes was founded by Domaine de Chevalier's prestigious winemaker, Olivier Bernard. The objective of Clos des Lunes is clearly defined: to create a fine dry white wine that will with time become part of the same legend that describes the sweet wines of SauternesThe success of this adventure is the culmination of the unique pairing of this remarkable and complex terroir accompanied with the Domaine de Chevalier team's great expertise in producing fine dry white wines. Clos des Lunes pioneers an innovative revelation in the history of Bordeaux wine.

A great wine originates from great fruit. It is the natural expression of a great terroir.Man simply reveals it… The terroir determines everything”, explains Olivier Bernard. This approach, based upon absolute respect for the terroir and the fruit, is put into practice through an endless pursuit of quality through research and constant refinement.

Located in Sauternes, on one of the greatest white wine terroirs in France, the Clos des Lunes is a magnificent rolling vineyard planted with old sémillon and sauvignon blanc vines. On very old vines, some perfectly golden clusters are chosen and delicately sorted grain by grain, by expert hands.

Aging: 6 to 7 months (25 % in barrels, 75 % in little vats)

Tasting Notes: 70% Semillon and 30% Sauvignon Blanc. Light yellow color with pale green tints. Intense and complex nose of exotic white fruits and citrus fruit mixed with floral notes of linden and acacia. The palate is rich, generous, ample, and intensely fruity, with very good tension. The Sauvignon Blanc lemon juice delicately coats the exotic sweetness (lychee, mango) of the well-ripe Semillon. Mineral notes bringing good salinity added to this cocktail, to serve a beautiful finish.

Reviews

Tangy aromas and flavors of lemon zest, fresh green pear, yogurt, and hints of beeswax. It’s medium-to-full-bodied with bright acidity. Flavorful and concentrated with a sleek, phenolic texture. Crushed stones on the finish. Drink or hold. ~93 James Suckling

Intense white peach, jasmine, and fennel notes stream through, with a flash of herb on the still-tight finish. Shows very nice length and focus. ~90-93 Wine Spectator (barrel sample)

Beautiful white peach, honeysuckle, white flowers, and a touch of toasted almond emerge from the 2018 Lune d'Argent Blanc, and it's medium-bodied, with a balanced, elegant texture, nicely integrated acidity, and plenty of fruit and depth. A blend of 70% Sémillon and 30% Sauvignon, it's going to be even better with another year in bottle and keep for 7-8 years. ~91 Jeb Dunnuck
