About the Wine

Domaine Schlumberger is a family vineyard, established in 1810, that today is spearheaded by Alain Beydon-Schlumberger (6th generation) along with, Séverine and Thomas Schlumberger (7th generation). Together they are estate winegrowers who exclusively harvest and produce their own wines from estate vineyards maintaining sustainable and biodynamic farming practices. They own 140 hectares under vine with 70 hectares classified as Grands Crus composed of 4 “terroirs” : KitterléKesslerSaeringSpiegel

First distinguished in 1699, Kitterlé has always had an exceptional reputation. This volcanic-sandstone plot is on a unique site, on a steeply sloping rocky outcrop facing three ways (SW, S, and SE). The light, sandy soil, which is kept back by huge dry stonewalls, gives very low yields. The grapes are handpicked and whole bunches are pressed. There is static settling of the lees. The wine is fermented in temperature-controlled tuns, followed by raising on the less for 8 months.

The wine is lemon yellow with green reflections of good intensity. The nose is dominated by fresh and fruity scents, citrus fruits, lemon zest, orange and fine notes of white flowers with a hint of minerality.

On the palate, we find the same aromas as on the nose, dominated by citrus fruits, clementine zest, lemon, orange, white flower as well as this noble mineral and smoky personality. The balance already shows energy and firmness. A great wine is born!

Reviews

I love the sophisticated peachy nose that's just beginning to open up properly. Only a medium-bodied wine, but it's concentrated. Has a sleek and slightly austere finish, too. The hint of sweetness is very well-integrated. Drink or hold. ~93JS

Luminous straw-green. White peach, mint and minerals on the nose and in the mouth. Closes with an enticing multilayered quality, showing sneaky concentration and depth. A very mineral and floral wine of beautiful purity; it has such a crystalline quality that it actually makes you think of the quartz-rich stones disseminated throughout the cru’s soil. I liked this. ~93Vinous
