About the Wine

Domaine de Rosiers is located in the heart of Ampuis and is owned and managed by the young Maxime Gourdain who has recently taken over the Domaine from his uncle Louis Drevon. The Domaine started bottling wines under their own name in 1976. The estate manages over 28 parcels on the hillsides of Ampuis, with vineyard holdings next to the famous La Landonne vineyard and Chateau Grillet. They produce wine in typical Cote-Rotie fashion with a dominance of Syrah featuring a touch of Viognier for added complexity. Domaine de Rosiers is an unpretentious, high-quality Côte-Rôtie producer, marked by traditional winemaking.

Cuvée Drevon is sourced from five different locations, with the vines varying from 38 to 80 years in age. About 2-4% Viognier is added to the Syrah for a little added freshness. The quantities of this cuvée have been reduced in recent years in favor of producing higher quality wine. The wine is a nod to the uncle and previous owner of the domain, Louis Drevon, who helps his nephew with everything and lets him build the wines with his own style.

Aging: 18 months in 25% New French Oak

Tasting Notes:Red Wine. In the glass, the wine is a deep ruby red. A spiced bouquet jumps out the glass dominated by ripe red berries, violetssmoked meats, pepper, currants, and licorice. On the palate the wine is intense, concentrated, smooth, rich, and robust, this wine matures excellently and can be aged for over 15 years.

Reviews

Almost as rich and dark as the estate's Besset bottling, the 2015 Cote Rotie Drevon boasts similarly dark aromas and flavors of charred beef and espresso. This is full-bodied and firmly tannic until hints of red berries peek through on the long finish. ~93 Robert Parker

Deep ruby. Intense, spice-accented dark berry and cherry scents are complemented by notes of olive, dried flowers, and vanilla. Smoky, nicely concentrated blackberry and cherry-vanilla flavors gain vibrancy and lift from cracked pepper and mineral qualities. The vanilla note repeats strongly on a juicy, focused finish framed by silky, harmonious tannins. ~91 Vinous Media
